Každý rok v prosinci si Ženeva velkými oslavami připomíná významný den, kdy se roku 1602 ubránila nočnímu ataku savojského vévody Charlese Emmanuela. Protože nepřítel zaútočil po žebřících, nesou oslavy název L´Escalade. My jsme oslavovali tak velmi, až jsem se druhý den ocitla na fotce ženevského deníku Tribune de Geneve. Měla jsem na oslavě důležitý úkol: jako reprezentant evropského světadílu jsem s dalšími vybranými měla mečem rozbít čokoládový Marmite (hrnec se zeleninovou polévkou, kterým prý jedna nebojácná žena v noci zneškodnila nepřítele na žebříku, když mu ho hodila na hlavu, a který se stal symbolem oslav). No, vyhráli jsme:-)
Every year, Geneva celebrates its victory over the Duck of Savoy Charles Emmanuel, whose troops attacked the city during one very dark night of December 1602. It is called the Escalade as they used the ladders leaned against the walls during the attack. We celebrated that much that I was in the newspapers Tribune de Geneve next morning. Me and three others representing the four continents, we were supposed to brake the chocolate Marmite (a large pot with vegetable soup, by which - as said - one hero woman destroyed an enemy on the top of the ladder and which became a symbol of the Escalade). Well, we won:-)
